Swaha: One who give us supreme joy. One who illuminates our mind and make us concious of our divine state.

Tat: 'THAT' indicating God.

Savitur: Illuminating as Sun.

Varenyam: Most adorable.

Bhargo: That splendor, luster, effulgence (brilliant radiance) which has power to give direction to our Karma.

Devasya: That divine being.

Dhiyo: Understanding of our reality, intention, our intellect.

Yo: indicating God. HE, WHO, THAT

Nah: OUR, indicating our spiritual consciousness.

In Gist:

OM (AUM) is the pranav sound and source of all energy. 'Om buhr bhuva swaha' is chanted in the beginning in order to invoke our creator, inspirer, guide, source of supreme joy. It also invokes our physical, earthly plane, world of our soul, world of our mind in order to illuminate them with the divine sound of 'AUM'.

'tat savitur varenyam' we remember that 'davik tatva' which is inculcated and present in every being, which is full of light and brightness, effulgent as of Sun. Which is most adorable and most desirable.

'bhargo devasya dheemahi' we meditate upon that divine being, supreme power which is splendorous and radiant as Sun. A life giver, a guide to our Karma or deeds.

'dhiyo yo nah prachodayat' may that Divine being, The only light, help us awake our spiritual conciousness. Let THAT guide our intellect, understanding of reality and truth (Satya).
